Kent Junior Cup R/U 1984-85

Invicta miss out!

Platt Invicta  1   Woodcombe  4

Platt Invicta fell at the final hurdle when they lost to a strong Woodcombe side in an entertaining final.

The first 40 minutes saw play going from end to end with Jim Lyon making a couple of fine saves, but with four minutes to half-time it was Neil Bowen running at the Woodcombe defence and hitting his shot into the corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance.

Platt then lost all their grip on the game and allowed Woodcombe to score two goals in the last two minutes of the first-half.

The second-half saw Woodcombe holding on to their lead and it took more good saves from Lyon and good defensive work by Tony Sales to keep them out.

Platt threw men forward looking for an equaliser, but Woodcombe found their way through with 10 minutes remaining to score their third and seal Platt's fate.

The fourth goal came on 90 minutes straight from a corner with the ball going past keeper Lyon, making his only mistake of the day.

Free Steaks!
As well as being our new sponsor and providing a new kit for the newly named Platt Invicta, Owsnett Butchers also promised each player a rump steak for each of the rounds we progressed in the prestigious Kent Sunday Trophy!

Now if memory serves me correctly we played 8 games before reaching the final, so well over 100 prime cuts of beef were dished out that season and Manager Gus Broad had a very good incentive to get people out of bed on  those cold and wet Sunday mornings.

Needless to say, Mr Owsnett did not extend the same offer the following season!
